Features

TAHITIAN VANILLA - Slofoodgroup Grade A Tahitian vanilla beans are grown and harvested in the South Pacific island of Papua New Guinea. These vanilla beans are sun cured during the warm dry season using sustainable methods and practices to ensure the best possible quality vanilla and help develop both flavor and aroma. Tahitian vanilla beans are one of the most flavorful and exotic vanilla beans in the world characterized by broad bean pods and a distinctive sweet, floral, and soft aroma.

FRUITY AND FLORAL FLAVOR - Papua New Guinea is the largest producer of Tahitian vanilla beans in the world. The distinctive PNG Vanilla tahitensis contains a floral and fruit forward flavor that is more economical than its authentic Tahitian counterpart. Notes of sweet summer cherries, ripe fruit, licorice, caramel and star anise shine through in this vanilla bean. Tahitian vanilla pairs well with chocolates, grilled fish, and summer fruits such as berries, peaches, nectarines, and coconuts.

VERSATILE GOURMET PODS - Our gourmet Tahitian Vanilla Beans have a complex combination of luxurious, aromatic, exotic, and sensual flavors that blend well with both sweet and savory dishes. The Grade A pods  are recognized for the depth they add to pastries vinaigrettes, barbecue and tomato sauces, and gelato. These whole vanilla beans are soft, supple, and can be used to make vanilla extract, vanilla paste or vanilla powder.

UNMISTAKINGLY DIFFERENT -- The sweet floral aroma of Grade A Tahitian vanilla beans is perfume-like and favored by pastry chefs. Although Tahitian vanilla is not a competitor of the bourbon vanilla, it is a distinguishable alternative variety of vanilla that should not be confused with the better known orchid vanilla planifolia. The pods of PNG Tahitian beans are black to chocolate brown, visibly plump, with ample amounts of vanilla caviar and lend themselves well to many baking applications.

EASY TO STORE - The ideal storage conditions for vanilla beans are cool, dry areas such as a pantry or spice cupboards that avoid direct sunlight. The additional use of tightly sealed bags or containers are always recommended. We recommend purchasing only the amount intended to use within 30-60 days, but if you need to store your vanilla beans for prolonged periods of time, it is recommended to air out your vanilla beans to prevent moisture build up around the pod.

Let it be known I am absolutely crazy about quality vanilla beans! I was doing some research on how to make my homemade vanilla equivalent to 'double-fold' vanilla extract. What is 'double-fold' you ask. This is when your ratio is 23oz of beans to a gallon of rum or vodka. ("single-fold" your ratio is 13oz of beans to a gallon.) You know it's high quality when you take the lid off your jar and you smell the subtle fruity and earthy notes of vanilla. The goal is to make well aged vanilla, so when you bake you have a flavor profile that can not be beat. This is where these beans come in. Grade A beans should be used for baking yes, but they will serve their purpose in vanilla extract as well. These beans in particular really pack a punch. Supple, shiny in color with a rich earthy fruity notes, these were destined to go into my already soaking vanilla extract jar, to add a ton of punch. Previously I had made vanilla extract (Always, always, always!! use top quality ingredients to make top quality extract) I decided I wanted "double-fold" vanilla extract instead of 'single-fold"So here is what I did:1 - Pint of Rum (light) - pre-soaking the highest quality beans I could find, which also came from Slofoodgroup10 - Grade A Tahitian Vanilla Beans, SplitI had to pour off a little of the pre-made vanilla, in order to accommodate the additional beans into the pint bottle. They were added in and are now soaking.Vanilla will be ready in 8 weeks, but if you really want the most amazing flavor... let it sit...6 months to a year. I intend on making an additional batch in January so by the time Christmas is here I have full body vanilla extract, that can be bottled into 4 oz bottles for holiday gifts for friends as well as used in my baking. If you love to bake and create in the kitchen, you should be using top grade ingredients. These beans are on point when it comes to quality and pricing. Lets be honest here, you can pay about the same price for low quality beans at the grocery store, or pay a smidge more for a top of the line vanilla bean that will take your baking to another level.I would highly recommend these beans to anyone who bakes!!Note: The pictures of the Vanilla Extract, show young still developing extract. This is bottle is less than a week old... so just imagine what it will be like by the time Christmas Rolls around, then aging for 6 months and even a year. This will be some knock your socks off Vanilla Extract that is well developed, full bodied ready to make it's presence be known!
